Yonggung Sundae in Yecheon
Before heading to Stay Seodang, I stopped by Yonggung Sundae, a famous local restaurant in Yecheon, Gyeongbuk.
One unique thing about this area is that Yonggung-myeon has an unusually high number of Sundae (Korean sausage) restaurants! It seems like many of them are family businesses passed down through generations.👵🏻👩🏻🦱✨

1. Outside & Parking
If you drive down the straight road, you will see a large brick building right across from the Nonghyup Gas Station.
The exact name of the shop is "Kim Mi-jung's Yonggung Sundae." The owner put her own name on the restaurant, which shows her confidence!
It was remodeled last year, so the outside looks very clean. There is also a huge parking lot right in front, making it super easy to park.

2. Inside the Restaurant
At the entrance, there is a sign introducing the restaurant’s history. They have been open since 1970 and focus on making healthy food with fresh ingredients!
It was also fun to learn that this small town, Yonggung-myeon, is the actual setting of a famous Korean traditional fairy tale about a rabbit and a turtle.🐰🐢✨

As soon as I opened the door, the staff welcomed us with a very bright and cheerful voice.
Since we made a reservation online, they guided us straight to a private room.

- Pork Sausage Soup (Sundae Gukbap): Broth simmered for over 15 hours with pork bones and healthy herbs.
- Spicy Grilled Squid (Ojingeo Bulgogi): Squid grilled over real fire with a special spicy sauce.
- Pork Intestine Sausage (Makchang Sundae): Chewy pork intestine stuffed with vegetables, rice, and ingredients.
We used the tablet on our table to order the Soup and the Spicy Squid.
- Pork Sausage Soup: 9,000 KRW
- Spicy Grilled Squid: 13,000 KRW
After a short wait, a cute robot server brought out our drinks and side dishes!
They served warm tea, our free soda from the reservation,
and side dishes like kimchi and tiny fried fish.
Drinking the warm tea while waiting for the food warmed up my stomach and felt so good!🍵✨
3. The Food Experience
First, the broth of the Pork Sausage Soup was incredibly deep and rich because it was cooked for a long time. It had a subtle pepper flavor and absolutely no bad meat smell. Even though I am very sensitive to meat smells, I loved it!
However, the meat inside was half lean meat and half fat. I don't like fatty meat, so I gave those pieces to my husband.🙄
The sausage inside was the standard, easy-to-eat type,
so I enjoyed it a lot. The radish kimchi was sweet and tasty!

The Spicy Grilled Squid looked amazing!
Since it was cooked over a real fire, it had a wonderful smoky flavor. The squid pieces were thick, juicy, and very chewy.💖
My favorite bite: A spoonful of white rice + a piece of pork + a piece of spicy squid. It is the perfect combination!✨
4. Free Refills & Kind Staff
The best part about this restaurant (besides the amazing food) is that they give you free refills for both the soup broth and rice!
You can really feel the traditional Korean generosity (called 'Jeong') here.
The elderly couple next to us and my husband both asked for more soup. The staff brought it out with a huge, kind smile. It made our meal even happier.😊✨
If you want to try authentic Korean sausage soup and smoky spicy squid made with love, I highly recommend Yonggung Sundae in Yecheon!
